Starting in Lerwick, which developed from the 1600's with the rise of the fishing industry and eventually took over capital status in 1708 from the ancient capital, Scalloway. We pass the Town Hall, sea front and Clickimin Broch (2000 years old) .
Travelling on to Scalloway we see the ancient capital and its famous castle which was built around 1600 by Earl Patrick Stewart. Visit the Scalloway museum which features displays on ancient Shetland and the Shetland Bus - which was a WW2 resistance movement where fishing boats operated a daring operation transporting troops and civilians across the sea between Shetland and German-occupied Norway from 1941-1945.
Next view the beauty of the Tingwall valley, learn of the Norse heritage and see Shetland's largest tree plantation at Kergord. The Shetland Jewellery workshop is a stop where hand-crafted items with Celtic and Norse themes are showcased, you will see the production process and have a chance to purchase items in the gift shop, before the return journey to Lerwick.
